Frequently asked questions

Which data do you need for an offer?
To properly select a chiller, we need basic process data: required cooling capacity (kW), average and peak heat load, supply and return temperatures (e.g., 12/7 °C), medium type (water or glycol mixture), flow rate, and operating regime (24/7, cyclic, or seasonal). We also need site conditions—indoor or outdoor installation, ambient temperature, and any noise or space constraints.
Can we reduce energy consumption?
In most cases, energy use can be significantly reduced. We achieve this through optimal system sizing, power control (e.g., inverter/VSD compressors), proper temperature differential (ΔT) settings, and cooling medium flow optimization. In specific applications, consumption can be further reduced with free-cooling solutions where part of the cooling is provided by outdoor air without compressor operation.
How important is preventive maintenance?
Preventive maintenance is essential for reliable cooling system operation. Regular cleaning of condensers and heat exchangers, refrigerant circuit leak checks, verification of fan/pump/control operation, and cooling medium quality checks prevent efficiency losses and unexpected downtime. Correct service intervals extend equipment life and maintain process temperature stability.
Is glycol necessary in a cooling system?
Glycol is used where freezing risk exists or where the system is installed outdoors. A water-glycol mixture lowers the freezing point and protects piping, heat exchangers, and pumps from damage. When selecting concentration, it is important to consider minimum ambient temperature and glycol impact on flow and heat transfer.
What is the difference between air- and water-cooled chillers?
In air-cooled chillers, heat is rejected directly to ambient air through a condenser with fans, making them suitable for simple outdoor installation without additional cooling infrastructure. Water-cooled systems use a cooling tower or another cooling-water source, enabling higher efficiency in larger industrial systems and more stable performance under high loads.
How do we determine required cooling capacity?
Cooling capacity depends on the amount of heat that must be removed from the process. It is calculated from machine heat losses, cooling medium flow rate, and temperature difference (ΔT) between supply and return. Sizing should also account for possible load peaks and future production expansion.
