PSA technology (Pressure Swing Adsorption)

PSA technology uses adsorbent material in two towers. At higher pressure, unwanted components are adsorbed, and during regeneration at lower pressure, the material is restored. This cycle enables continuous gas production.

Membrane technology for separating nitrogen from compressed air

Membrane technology

A membrane generator separates gases using polymer fibers. Oxygen, water vapor, and CO₂ pass through the membrane faster, while nitrogen passes more slowly, resulting in a stable nitrogen flow at the outlet.

Frequently asked questions

Which data do you need to select the right generator?
Key inputs are required flow (Nm³/h), purity (% or ppm), operating pressure, duty cycle (continuous/cyclic), and application type. Existing compressed-air system data is also important because inlet air quality and pressure directly affect generator efficiency.
PSA or membrane generator – which is better?
It depends on the application. Membrane generators are simple, compact, and suitable for lower nitrogen purities. PSA generators (Pressure Swing Adsorption) enable significantly higher purities and larger flows, so they are often used in industrial processes such as laser cutting, pharmaceuticals, or food processing.
Is the investment worth it?
In most cases, yes. With regular gas consumption, payback is typically much faster compared to cylinders or liquid gas. On-site generation removes transport, cylinder rental, and logistics costs while ensuring continuous gas availability.
What nitrogen or oxygen purity can be achieved?
Purity depends on generator technology and the application. PSA nitrogen generators typically provide purity from around 95% up to 99.999%, while oxygen generators usually reach about 90–95% concentration. The optimal value always depends on process requirements.
Does a generator need additional equipment?
Yes. Stable and reliable operation requires a suitable compressed-air source, filtration, a compressed-air dryer, and, where needed, a gas storage tank. Proper air treatment extends system lifetime and ensures consistent gas quality.
How demanding is generator maintenance?
Maintenance is relatively simple and usually includes regular filter replacement and periodic system checks. PSA generators use long-life adsorbent material, so operating costs remain low and the system is suitable for continuous industrial operation.
