How a Champion compressor is made

1

Every compressor tested

To ISO 1217 (flow) and IEC 60204 (electrical equipment). The data is stored and a test report is available for every compressor.

2

Traceability since 2014

Performance and critical components of every compressor are recorded in a database.

3

In-house airend

Rotors ground on CNC machines with online laser measurement. FM15–FM22 use the Enduro airend with integrated separator and oil filter.

4

Certified production

ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, Lonate Pozzolo plant (Italy).

NEW

FM22+ High Flow

Up to 10% more flow than the FM22: 3.36–3.79 m³/min at 22 kW, fixed or regulated speed, stand-alone or on a 500-litre receiver.

Plug & play

ELITE station

A 7.5 or 11 kW compressor on a 270-litre receiver with CHR refrigeration dryer, CHF filters, condensate drain and oil/water separator. 10 bar, 0.97–1.39 m³/min.

RS

FM RS – regulated speed

Speed follows air demand; the drive exceeds class IES2 to EN 61800-9. Savings of at least 25% of energy costs.

Cost of compressed air over 5 years

  • FM30–FM132 belt-free: direct or gear drive
  • FM30–FM75: stainless and zinc-coated steel pressure lines instead of hoses
  • Footprint of only 0.4 m² (FM7–FM11) or 0.5 m² (FM15–FM22)

Technology

How a screw compressor works

Two rotors – male and female – turn inside the airend. Air is trapped between the profiles and the casing, the chamber volume shrinks as they rotate and pressure rises. Compression is continuous, so the flow is even and pulsation-free.

  1. Intake

Air enters through the intake filter and inlet valve into the chambers between the rotors.

  2. Compression

As the rotors turn the chambers shorten and pressure rises evenly. Oil seals, lubricates and carries away heat.

  3. Oil separation

The separator removes the oil from the air and returns it to the circuit. Residual oil is below 3 ppm (L30–L37).

  4. Cooling and treatment

The aftercooler cools the air, condensate is drained, then drying and filtration to the required ISO 8573-1 class.

Cutaway of the CompAir FourCore two-stage airend

FourCore: two stages in one casing

One motor, four rotors, one semi-integrated casting. The patented FourCore airend from the Centre of Excellence in Simmern (Germany) delivers two-stage efficiency in the size of a single-stage compressor – on L110FC–L290FC it is 8–10% more efficient than a conventional single-stage unit.

In-house airend

CompAir designs and builds its rotors itself, on CNC rotor grinding machines with online laser measurement.

IE3 to IE5 motors

IE3 as standard, IE4 optional (L30–L37) and on L75 e-models and fixed-speed L45–L55, PM IE5 on L45–L55 RS.

Less servicing

Factory-fill lubricant for up to 4,000 hours, automatic belt tensioning (L07–L22) and automatic motor lubrication (L75, FourCore).

Built for hot rooms

Full performance up to 45–46 °C ambient (L07–L22). RS cabinet protected by replaceable inlet filters.

Energy

A compressor's biggest cost is electricity

Compressed air accounts for about 10% (in extreme cases up to 40%) of energy costs in an industrial company, and energy for up to 80% of a compressor's lifecycle cost. This is where the savings are.

Fixed speed at 70% load

  • 82 % energy

  • 8 % maintenance and service

CompAir L-RS at the same load

  • 48 % energy

Heat you already pay for

About 70% of the electrical energy turns into heat during compression. Without recovery you pay for it twice: once in electricity, then again for the fans or cooling water that remove it. Integrated or retrofit heat recovery saves up to 75% energy.

Technology comparison

Piston or screw – how to choose?

It depends on air demand, operating pattern and how stable the pressure must be.

Piston compressors

  • Suited to occasional use
  • Lower initial investment
  • More pressure pulsation
  • Less efficient in continuous operation

Most common in small workshops where the compressor does not run all day.

Screw compressors

  • Even, pulsation-free flow
  • High energy efficiency, RS saves up to 35%
  • Designed for 24/7 operation
  • Heat recovery possible

The standard choice for industry and any system with larger or constant air demand.

  • Pressure dew point down to −40 °C – no moisture or frozen cylinders in winter
  • ISO 8573-1 class 2.2.0, technically oil-free, food-grade oil
  • Stable, pulsation-free pressure during milking and washing
